Sweetness of life
Today is Friday... It has been a long while since I wrote anything. Good thing no one reads it but myself. The voice starts, and stops, starts again...Then complete silence fills the emptiness of darkness... Slight trace of sweetness glide through my tongue... This is how life should taste like.

BBQ Pork Bun sale
Today we had a BBQ pork bun charity sale event at our office. Since I was the chair person, I needed to get it from the bakery in Chinatown, setting up schedule and more importantly: hustling money from unsuspected bystanders :) I was a little nervous about if we can sale all of 100 buns I bought, but my worries instantly went away when the first guy in line bought a dozen buns. We would holler and wave at anyone with "gentle" sale pitches such as:"Hey, it is for a good cause!" "This is no crappy bread; we are talking about BBQ pork bun here!" "If you don't buy, we will report you to your boss!" Needless to say, it became a pretty easy sale after that. All 100 of them were sold out in a little more than one hour. We were trying to sell some pork buns to a group of our Chinese colleagues in the lunch room, but it was bad timing: they already had lunch, so they ran away pretty fast. "Maybe they know the true cost of these pork buns." I grumbled a little. All in all, it was a good day; we made about $100! yaaaaay!

JFK assassination
I was in the Dallas last year, and one of the things intrigued me was the 6th Floor Museum. It was where the shot was fried that killed JFK. It has such an eerie feeling to it, it still send chills down my spine whenever I think about it. The details of that day were shown on TV last night with extra footages and sound bites. It follows the minute-by-minute activities of those up-and-coming reporter such as Jim Lehrer, Bob Schieffer, Peter Jennings (I didn’t know he is a Canadian!), and even a young Dan Rather was there, too. Quite an incredible line-up, wasn’t it? The name of this program is “JFK: Breaking the News”. It has the shot where we can see the bullet actually hit JFK’s head and blooding was sprayed all over the place; very gruesome scene. Amazingly, it also has the footage where Jack Ruby shot Lee Oswald (the suspected killer) from point-blank range; it is claimed the first ever shooting broadcasted live to TV audience. Suddenly, all the memories from Dallas last year have come back to me… now I even remember the place where we had a nice outdoor dinner with aunt Yun! Brain sure has its tricks… only side effect: I couldn’t sleep for an hour or two trying to remember what dish we had that night. Damn it!

Tuscany
Tuscany…I don’t know why this word just seems to roll off one’s tongue with such ease and comfort… at least it works for me that way. Can’t explain why I feel this way, but let’s face it: it sure looks awesome on TV! It feels, in more than one way, like California; with dreamy blue sky, piercing sunshine, and of course, the best wine production in the world. But alas, lacking in California is the towering medieval castles, colorful farmhouses, and obviously, the famed Polio horse racing at Piazza del Campo in Siena (Bay Meadows and the like is pale in comparison). Matty told me something about biking tours available in Tuscany, so I will remind myself to check it out.

Slap me!
OK, looks like I should slap myself silly when I was talking about national pride and Chinese women soccer: they lost to Germany 0:8 in the Olympics. Still, I think they are a better deal than Chinese men (if they indeed can even cell themselves “men”) soccer; at least they are IN the Olympics. Getting foreign coach didn’t work (I even managed to get a autography from that first ever foreign coach, a German dude whose name I can’t remember, in Guangzhou long long time ago), professionalize the league didn’t work, and paying player ludicrous amount of money DEFINITELY didn’t work. In my theory, most Chinese men are simply not “man” enough to play contact sports. I will be the first one to admit it (I truly suck at soccer, by the way), but I don’t get paid handsome money to show I should play like a man on the field. Major philosophical overhaul will be needed for Chinese soccer. First of all, you’ve got to teach them that they are really man, so… play like one! Also, start feeding them more protein products (is it me, or they look awfully skinny compared to the other team?), so a gentle bump or push won’t blow them away. Lastly, let the fans decide whether they should pay for the game after the games concluded. They might be poor because of that, but at least they know why!

China lost to Japan in Asian Cup...So?
Chinese soccer (or "sucker", if you are Chinese) has been the laughing stock of the world for so many years, I can't possibly understand why people are still into it. Maybe it is about national pride (after years of humiliation, it doesn't sound like a smart proposition to me - hey, look! We sent a man to outer space!)? Maybe it is about never giving up your dream (hey, I want Bush to show a slight shred of intelligence, and Clinton to become a priest, too)? Maybe... well, let me tell you something, for national pride, there is always Chinese WOMEN soccer; as for the dream... well, you can always dream... Speaking of which, I need to run out and buy some lottery tickets so I can quit my job next Monday...
back
It has been a while since last entry. I have mostly been a lazy ass (with capital A), but I was in Far East for a while, so I guess I should excuse myself. I wish I could stay there longer; I am just not used to the overweight girls I see on a regular basis here in the states. Home...sweet...fat...home.
